Back to one client at a time.
I've spent years building fitness at scale with Level Method, and now I'm building the next piece -- an engine that designs individualized training programs -- and to get it right, I have to work with real people one at a time.
For the last 10 years I've been deep in the data side of fitness with Level Method -- not just the assessments, but the whole system behind them: the frameworks, the programming and energy-system models, millions of data points on how people progress in the real world, and what training does to a body. A lot has changed in those 10 years. I've learned an enormous amount about what actually works, and what just wastes time.
I've also had to figure it out the hard way in my own body. I ruptured my Achilles in my twenties, and the aftereffects created imbalances that derailed my training for years. I know what it feels like to be capable, then have to rebuild around pain, compensation, and a body that doesn't respond the way it used to.
That has made me a better coach. Full-time athlete mode teaches you one set of lessons. Rebuilding in real life -- with work, family, stress, injuries, and limited bandwidth -- teaches another.
About four years ago I offloaded my one-on-one clients to simplify down to the data side of the business -- building the frameworks and models. What I'm working on isn't experimental -- it's grounded in principles that have held up over decades, not the trend of the month.
The hard part isn't the principles. It's dialing in how they meet a real body -- old injuries, a packed schedule, about as constrained as programming gets -- and then systematizing it. You don't learn that from an avatar or from crunching numbers. So I'm taking on a few clients again, to build what will become the inner workings of that engine. Your results are the whole point -- they're how I know it's working.
I started coaching in 2008, out of the Army. It began with real people, one at a time -- and that's still where the work that matters gets done.
How I think about health
I'm not a doctor. Most of what keeps you healthy -- how you eat, how you move, how you sleep, staying strong -- isn't the kind of medicine you get prescribed. It's the daily stuff most doctors never tell you to do, but that makes all the difference. And the few who would don't have the time to actually coach you through it.
That's my job. Simple, proven things -- real food, strength, mobility, the occasional fasting protocol -- done consistently, year after year. Nothing extreme, no hype, no magic. Just the work that actually moves the needle, built to fit the life you already have.
I live in the high desert of Southern California with my wife, our 2 year old, a cat, and two dogs. I've been a training & nutrition nerd my whole life. A perfect day runs from a strong morning routine and great coffee to winding down with the family at night -- high-quality training and food, a few hours of high-impact work, a good book, and time outside.
